THIS WEEK'S SPECIAL: SNICKERDOODLES

Last week, Patti Lacy commented, “This is a café? Where are the grits?” Well, I don’t do grits, but it got me thinking . . . why not have a special of the week? My initial vision of my blog was to provide a place to gather and enjoy a cuppa something while learning about new books and the writing path—sort of a comfy spot to visit with friends. I cherish all your visits and comments, and now I want to give you another reason to stop by the Café.

So this week is the debut of the “Special of the Week.” I have a two-fold purpose in mind:

1. Give you a peek at my to-die-for favorites.

2. Let you, my readers, be an active part of the Café by sending me your good eats. If you’re a reader, tell me a sentence or two about what you like to read or a favorite book you’ve read recently and send me a recipe (Photos of you and the recipe are welcome). If you’re a writer, here’s you chance to plug your work in progress or recent and/or upcoming book release. Maybe you’re inspired by a certain food or have a recipe from your book you’d like to share. Again, photos of you and your book totally welcome. Please leave a comment with your contact information if you've got a recipe to share. Thanks!

Now, on to this week’s special—Snickerdoodles! My original recipe had this catchy little heading: Fun to make! Fun to sniff! Fun to eat!

SNICKERDOODLES
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

Mix thoroughly:
1 cup shortening
1 ½ cups sugar
2 eggs

Sift together and add to creamed mixture.
2 ¾ cups sifted flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. soda
½ tsp. salt

Roll dough into small balls. Roll in cinnamon/sugar mixture and bake 8 – 10 minutes. The tops will crinkle and flatten as they cook.

I made up a double batch of these recently and took them to my friend Carolyn Steele’s book signing of her almost new book, Preserving Family Legends for Future Generations. And it warmed the cockles of my heart to see these melt-in-your-mouth cookies disappearing from the plate almost as fast as Carolyn’s books flew into the hands of the folks who came to her signing. Thanks, Carolyn, for letting me share this fun day with you.

By the way, you can order Carolyn's book here or here.
It’s your turn—send me your tempting recipes. I know you want to.

What a great idea, Carla! I love snickerdoodles and love to bake but usually stick to Toll House with walnuts--a family staple!

Blessings!
Patti

mmmmmmmmmmm Love Snickerdoodles. I think those are my favorite cookies of all time, especially all warm and cinnamon-y from the oven.

I look forward to this new feature at the Cafe!

You're perfectly welcome to make Snickerdoodles for my book signing. I'll make . . . um . . . frozen pizza? for yours.

Thanks, Patti--you gave me the idea. Hope you'll stop back and see whassup!

Yeah, Erica! I love the smell of Snickerdoodles baking. Got extra points from my family for making them.

Yes, Myra, if you'd like cookies, I can do that. Can't wait for that event, my friend. And if frozen pizza is all you can come up with, I'll take it--LOL!
