Thirty Days of Thanksgiving - Day 11

Day 11. The Letter K.

I’ve always had a fascination with Koala Bears, those fuzzy marsupials from Down Under with lighter colored tufts coming out of their ears and sparkly little eyes. They look intelligent and thoughtful like they have loads of great thoughts they’d love to share with you. I’ve only had the pleasure of seeing them "in person" once – a few years ago at the San Diego zoo, and seeing the mama koala with a baby on her back lumber along at a sloth’s pace was worth the price of admission.

Then, a couple of years ago, I started getting comments on my blog from someone named Koala Bear Writer. Since then, I’ve learned she is from Canada, a fellow writer, and we’ve become cyber friends. So in honor of Koala Bear Writer, I’m thankful today for those who’ve made my life richer through cyberspace. Here are a few of my favorite blog stops: an even dozen for your reading pleasure. When you visit, be sure and say I sent you!

Rel is a real girl from Down Under, so hats off to her today, too, on Koala Day!!
And an added thanks to all the veterans who've sacrificed their time and lives for our country, especially to my dad who served in Korea and to my son, Brett, who is on active duty now with the US Coast Guard. I'm proud of you and appreciate you. God Bless America!

Aw, love that little koala bear. I got to see one once at a zoo in Chicago, but it was all sleepy and didn't do much but look cute. :)

Thanks for the blog shout out. I'm really enjoying the Thankful posts here.

Carla! Oh my, thank you for that such lovely encouragement from a women I believe certainly has that gift - you :)

Can I be so bold as to do a little Aussie education?! The koala is not related to bears in any way so should actually never be called a Koala Bear - as cute as it sounds :) And beware the cute factor! They have quite a guttural growl/roar when cranky and can use those claws quite viciously - that is if you can wake them from their usual slumber - LOL!

More than happy to arrange a close up and personal visit with a koala if you ever come down under :)

Thanks, Erica! I know what you mean. The ones I saw were sort of sleepy, too.

And Rel! So glad to see you. Americans like the "cute" factor - anything that looks like a teddy bear :-)) I saw the claws on the one in the zoo. Not sure I'd cuddle with one - ha! And I'm putting koala tour with Rel on my bucket list. Thanks, sweet friend.

Carla - I just found this post! Thank you so much for the lovely recommendation. I had the opportunity to see a few koalas in zoos in Australia and one in the wild, and I think they are so cute. I should add that I know they're not bears - I only use the title because my mascot is a stuffed koala teddy bear... so he's Koala Bear. Which is misleading, when the real koalas are marsupials. ;)
